Converting Your Recumbent with an E-BikeKit – EBikeKit.com

“My name is Kurt Traylor and I'm writing just to tell you a little of my story and to tell you how happy I am with my e-bike conversion that I had installed on my Sun EX 3 recumbent trike.

I'm now 68 years old and almost 30 years ago I was struck by a train while operating a skid loader at work.  But that's a whole different story I'll not go into now, just suffice it to say that I suffered debilitating injuries that changed my life forever.  6 months in the hospital (over 2 in a coma), 2+ years of out-patient therapies, and a VERY supportive wife and family all have been instrumental in getting me where I am today.

Before the accident, I wouldn't say that I was an avid cyclist, but more than just occasional.

The last 2 or 3 months of my hospital stay my brother-in-law came to visit me regularly and at one of those visits we made a pact that we would run a marathon together when I recovered.  But my head injury affected my balance and I wasn't able to walk or even stand without assistance (still can't) so that wasn't going to happen.  I kept thinking to myself that I could ride a three wheeled bike, though  So I made the progression from a standard adult trike to a semi-recumbent 3 speed trike to a 21 speed fully recumbent trike.  That last one worked great and after a couple years I was up to 20-30 mile trips and had my sights set on a century bike tour.  A hundred miles in one day on a bike would be comparable to running a marathon so the conversation was back on.  So about 6 or 7 years after my accident my brother in law and I (and about 1000 other people) rode in a 100 mile tour.  It took me over 11 hours but  wasn't last, and I DID IT!

Since then I continued riding mostly by myself on 5-10 mile trips around home.  But as I aged, those trips became less frequent – that is until this spring when I had Smitty's Bike Shop in Piqua, OH  install an e bike conversion.  Now I'm riding 10-15 miles 4-6 times a week and loving it!  Using the pedal assist option I travel about 4 mph faster then before and I no longer have to worry about hills or wind.  And the exercise is doing wonders for my physical and mental health.

I'm a very satisfied customer.”
